Financial Excellence Solutions from SAP

The needs of business users are changing – from where they work to how they work and what they expect from the application solutions on which they rely. Technology approaches are advancing at a rapid pace to keep up with these demands. No longer do business users need to reside in the office to work, and many teams span across country and continental borders. In addition, the new generations of workers expect the same degree of personal control and ease of use that they see in the myriad of solutions available for social networking and the like. The requirements are twofold: provide easier access to information and ensure even tighter process and security control over the huge volumes of underlying data.

Best Practices in Creating a Strategic Finance Function

Their goal is to enforce stricter control processes to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, offer strategic insights into the internal and external business environment, and connect the business strategy with daily operations through performance tracking. To assess the trends in the finance function and identify best practices, APQC, an internationally recognized nonprofit organization that provides best practice research, metrics, measures, has evaluated the performance of more than 130 finance organizations. This SAP Insight shares the results of SAP research as well as APQC’s Open Standards Benchmarking Collaborative (OSBC) research.

How many times have you been asked by SAP recruiters “do you know anyone?” If you give a name, that person will get bombarded with emails and if you don’t, they will never know about the jobs that suit them, so you can either let your friend down or hand them to frenzied agents to chase. After all, give a consultants name to a non reputable agent and they will probably never speak with you again!

Agents ask because they have a bad combination going on – too lazy to search and too mean to pay – harsh but true. Consider contacting an agent and asking continue reading…

Last Update May 22, 2011

It does not matter what access you have for table editing (S_TABU_DIS). Just use the command &SAP_EDIT in the command field in SAP and off you go: you can edit table content directly. This works if you have debug with changes access for object S_DEVELOP, but S_TABU_DIS is ignored as well as the system settings regarding changes. If you use this function for transaction, master data or other tables that cannot be changed with SM30, you can cause quiet some damage.  So, use with caution and this is NOT a Best Practice by all means, but to educate you on a little documented feature:

You have setup a procedure where contractors / temporary workers are limited to x number of days to make sure that these users won’t be active for ever. The downside of this procedure is, that someone needs to keep track on these user-ID’s before they expire so that access can be extended ahead of time to make sure users are not impacted.

Best case scenario would be that the acess to SAP is in synch with the network ID and communication is setup so that everyone is informed in a timely manner about the upcoming expiration. continue reading…

What is SAP

SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing. Designed and developed by 5 IBM engineers during the 1970s as a standards based software alternative to custom built ERP software, SAP has come a long way. SAP has been in the forefront of ERP software ever since.

SAP develops ERP products to be used by companies to manage their enterprise. This includes managing their day to day operations, logistics, finances, month end, quarter end and yearly activities, reporting, HR etc. Although there are a couple of other ERP vendors who do the same, the key differentiator for SAP is the way in which SAP integrates all these operations and makes for a seamless system that is both easy to use and at the same time sophisticated enough to include all kinds of complex activities that are needed for any kind of enterprise. Examples of some of these activities could, be running Material resource planning, recruiting and managing an employee’s lifecycle, disbursing payrolls, recording all financial transactions and drawing balance sheets and P/L statements of the company etc.   Now imagine a single system that takes care of all these diverse activities and still keep them well integrated. continue reading…
