You are working as a SAP Security Admin and there they go again! Users call you up and demand to give them access so that they can change layout sets in transaction VA05.  The users are screaming: Give me SAP_ALL, Give me everything! I cannot work! The option to save layout is grayed out!

Well, first thought is, that you would not allow them to change global layouts (S_ALV_LAYO), but that may not be the case.

Users have created a ton of batch input sessions and processed them with SM35. The users did not care about deleting unwanted sessions and there are a lot of old sessions, with almost any status (in processing/in background/processed/errors). All of them are junk (in your terms), and have to be removed from the system.

You can delete unwanted sessions with abap program RSBDCTL6  at once and then setup a background job that deletes the sessions for a specific session, user who created the session, date range, older than x days etc. that runs on a regular basis. continue reading…

Ever wondered what the error codes mean when analyzing your AIS  or trace logs? Here are some hints and how users or administrators should react to the messages:

1  Incorrect logon data (client, user name, password)
User: check the logon data entered (enter data again)
Admin: check the logon data for the service users, for example in the ITS service file
(usually wrong client) or in the RFC destinations
(usually wrong password)

A few days ago, a friend sent me a link to a site called Wolfram|Alpha. I thought that would be a usual website like 1000′s of other websites out there. But when I looked at the demo, it blew my socks off.

Check out the example, like comparing SAP with Oracle. Of course, you can search anything you want or need more information about and the web service will give you the information you may look for. Try it out and become a fan as well!

To create custom transaction, it is suggested that you define the naming convention as simple as possible to make sure that users will remember the transaction and do not have to second guess. If a user needs a custom transaction to browse table MARA, you can either call the transaction ZSE16_MARA or simply ZMARA. continue reading…
