For once, not a topic related directly to SAP, but may affect your business. One of our readers was contacted with the e-mail text below. It has been modified not to include the company name. Upon further research, other companies had been contacted with a similar message to then offer domain names for other countries at a highly marked-up price.

We want to hear from you about how far spread this marketing method is. Most likely, this post will attract a lot of spam, so bear with us as all submissions will be moderated and published as soon as possible.

Below the content of the e-mail request:

Dear CEO/Manager,

We are an Internet Solutions Management Company in Asia. We mainly deal with domain names registration and internet brand registration for companies in the world as well as intellectual property rights protection. On Oct. 30, 2010 We received an application, from Europe Company, for registering some domain names with “YourCompany ” and also register the single word “YourCompany ” as their internet brand. After our practice auditing, we found the word they want to register is same to your company name and trademark. We consider that if similar domains are registered by other company without your approval, it may cause bad effects to your trademark and reputation and bring website confusion to you. As an authorised organisation, we are against with cybersquatting behavior which for making exorbitant profits. We suspect this third company is a domain name squatter, so we informed you at first and need to know your opinion. If you agree about this issue, we will finish the third company’s registration. If you don’t agree, please inform me ASAP. I am looking forward to your reply.

Kindly Regards,

Susan Fagan

Everybody has Access to your DATA!!!

White-collar crime is the fastest growing type of crime in North America, and co-workers and disgruntled employees have many motivations to cause damages or increase their wealth. Especially in the current economy it is every company’s responsibility to keep honest employees honest by preventing opportunities and temptation! The first thing intruders do before taking any illegal action is to get access to another colleague’s user profile for extended access so that the other person will be blamed. Below we will point out how easy this unfortunately is…

We know about one company that lost over $60 Million in a 4 year period. A director used one of his employee’s user profiles and passwords to commit the fraud in the SAP financial system. When the fraud was discovered, this employee spent half a year in jail for a crime that she did not commit. Eventually, her boss was arrested for stealing her password and committing the fraud. continue reading…
