SAP is a product bought with the intention of success, by companies which, given the costs of SAP, have done well in their own market. In every market, quality control and market knowledge is a key factor to a secure future, so why are there so many SAP consultants and consultancies working in the market today who, to put it simply, suck at their jobs?

At this point, I should point out that most SAP consultants and consultancies offer fantastic knowledge and value when deploying SAP – these people work hard to get the most from the SAP solution for the customers – these consultants, consultancies and end-customers suffer at the hands of the terrible consultants, as they have to manage them and work with them on a day to day basis, but the ultimate losers are the customers themselves. continue reading…

It’s hard to quit a job, especially these days.  It takes courage to realize that your current position just isn’t for you, then tender your resignation and head back into an unstable job market.

Yet sometimes, things happen that make it a whole lot easier to leave. Whether it’s a ridiculous outburst from your crazy boss, the realization that you have to persuade yourself to get out of your car and go into your office each morning, or just another sleepless night worrying about work — sometimes, we just have those “Aha!” moments and we suddenly know we’ve been pushed over the edge and there’s no turning back. It’s quittin’ time. continue reading…

Twenty-first century firms use computers to store their records, ranging from client lists to product research, marketing, payroll, accounting, billing and shipping.

The amount of information is vast, but most firms rely on a single computer expert to keep the whole system healthy – the database administrator.

A database administrator – also called a DBA – is the person to call when a company needs to test its database performance, add new security measures or build a backup system. The job description comes with a large portion of responsibility for the person who is the single guardian of a company’s data security, recovery and integrity.

SAP Interview

An SAP Interview Process is no different from any other IT interview process. Depending on the type of job (Contract, Temp, Full time etc) the questions do vary though. As usual there are technical rounds, managerial rounds (if you are applying for an SAP PM role), HR round. Our focus through this article will be more on the technical and managerial rounds.

Technical Round

Technical interviews are mostly held by the tech leads, although project managers are part of the interview sometimes. When I mean technical, it could be for an SAP functional position, ABAP, Basis or other technical positions. Not all types of interviews have all of the following phases. For eg., a full time position or a contract-to-hire will involve more general questions, his/her project/achievement related questions activities etc while a contract position will involve more focussed questions on the module/specifics for which he is recruited for. continue reading…

SAP Job Market

SAP job market is currently in a state of flux just like any other IT job. Where there used to be 10 jobs there are 4 or may be 5. Post recession, the reasons are obvious – Lack of budgets, postponing new implementations, general market slump etc.

However, all is not lost yet. There are still jobs. And more are going to come up as the economy slowly takes roots again and boomtown comes along.

Where are the jobs

It is wiser to go to greener lands than search for jobs in a desert. Knowing the market well can make all the difference. So, where are the jobs now? In no particular order, the following modules of SAP are still in demand based on our training and the jobs our students get. We are also basing the list based on industry news.

  1. SAP Security and Basis
  2. SAP FICO
  3. SAP CRM Techno functional
  4. SAP IS Retail (Yes Retail is booming again believe it or not. First to suffer is probably the first to raise :) )
  5. SAP Adobe Interactive Forms
  6. SAP GRC
  7. Vistex, Vendavo and other bolt-ons

This list is not complete but is just to remind you to go in the direction where the jobs are. For more, click on SAP Training

But I don’t know these!!

That’s always a problem. Upgrade your skills. There is fewer alternatives if you don’t. Try to look for modules that are closer to your domain. For example, an SD consultant can go for upgrading to SAP CRM. To an SD consultant with a good knowledge of Pricing, Customer master, order management and OTC cycle , CRM feels like an extension. Similarly, an MM consultant with good knowledge of the P2P cycle, upgrading to eProcurement or SRM would make much more sense. Invest in training. It will pay you back.

Also, follow the wikis , articles and discussions in SDN and other forums. It is not necessarily the case that might gain any knowledge on the actual module itself, but you will understand trends that need to be latched on to.

If you hire an SAP consultant, certified by SAP AG, for one day to show you what SAP user screens look like, how to start up transactions, let you get hands on experience by stepping through the sequences yourself, how to do things smarter, and more, how much do you think that would cost?

What if you could get your own ‘starter training for SAP software’ for 7%* of that cost, without needing access to an online SAP software system?

by Consultant Box

Since 1997, one of the most consistently difficult skill sets to find has been the SAP HCM (HR) master – during the down turn after the Y2k disaster when the SAP market sank, the SAP HCM consultants were in comparatively huge demand – but today in 2010 we find that more and more HCM specialists are available for projects – not, by any means all of them but even some of the most highly regarded are looking for new contracts.

The rates of pay on offer have reduced, but likewise the expectations – during 98/99 these consultants were commanding large rates and expense accounts above many others in the same industry due to lack of supply, but today things have changed. continue reading…
